A ‘Reminder’ well received

DSC01268On Tuesday 16 June 2015 New Jerusalem Children’s Home ‘NJCH’ commemorated young people, youth, of 1976 in a big and special way. The organization; New Jerusalem Children’s Home aligned the message of the day to a campaign ‘Reminder of June 16 1976’ which served to correct the misconceptions shared amongst youth of today about the meaning of the day and how it has come to be celebrated, NJCH was able to achieve just that in grand fashion.

Youth flocked in by the hundreds from neighboring areas, schools and NGO’s to be part of the healthy festivities that focused on education and career exposure. The day kicked off with an Opening and welcoming of guests and corporates along with the singing of the national anthem. It then proceeded with prayer, and special pieces by a veteran group strongly involved in the freedom struggle and present on the original June 16 rally of 1976 as well as a special address by New Jerusalem CEO Ms. Anna Mojapelo. With energies soaring high throughout the day capped off with entertainment pieces by kids and professionals once all kids had been through the different career stalls on site. It then proceeded to host a Boys soccer tournament involving 8 teams from within Midrand.

A number of careers were on exhibition during the day such as paramedics as represented by EMS, law enforcement represented by Midrand SAPS, Social work and relative careers represented by the department of social work, Business consulting, finance, and accounting as demonstrated by BSG. The NYDA was on site to promote their activities and educate learners on how they as an organization can assist them going forward. The brand Institute for all things PR and marketing related, MSC Business College and loads more. Schools present on the day include Kensington High who dazzled guests with a breath taking drama performance, Kaalfontein Secondary School, Princehoff, Oracle, Ebony High and few others.

As is the focus of New Jerusalem Children’s Home to promote community development through such initiatives as it aims to use such days as platforms to promote education, child welfare and rights, as well as healthy living for children, youth and adults alike, the celebration of June 16 in this manner can safely be considered the first of its kind with many more to follow. The underlying hope is that Reminder of June 16 becomes a movement spread like wild fire amongst the youth of South Africa.

As New Jerusalem Children’s Home, we would like to thank all children and youth that came out to support our June 16 Career Day, we would also like to acknowledge the different companies/ organizations and individuals that came out to provide such positive energy on the day. Finally, we would like to thank all those who had a hand in making the day possible. Let us continue to work together to correct the ills of society and build a brighter future for our beloved South Africa and Africa as a whole.
